Catholic Thoughts is back! I apologize for the recent lack of activity on this blog. During the end of July and the beginning of August I was trying to finish up my coursework for my MA. Having finished that, all that remains is for me to take a comprehensive examination, and then I’ll have my degree. After finishing my coursework, I went on vacation with my family. So! Now I’m back and ready for action.
I decided to do today’s post in reaction to the recent flutter of attention in the media given to the supposed change in Vatican policy on condoms in Africa. Most news sources would have you believe that Pope Benedict XVI recently changed his mind about how to best approach the HIV/AIDS epidemic on that continent. There is not the slightest shred of truth in such a statement. In the video below I discuss what gave rise to this recent misunderstanding, what the Vatican’s position actually is, and why it holds the position that it does.
